Partnership Convention
In 2007, BITS, within the framework of its Network of Local and Regional Authorities, signed an agreement of cooperation with the Assembly of European Regions (AER).
This Network is open to local and regional authorities, including regions, departments, provinces and municipalities competent in the field of tourism or in the social sector. Its main objective is encouraging a partnership and the exchange of good practices among local and regional stakeholders acting in the sector of social, fair and sustainable tourism.
The AER is the political organization of European regions and its objective is to defend the regional interests in the political process and to develop interregional co-operation. More than 250 regions from 32 countries and 14 interregional organizations are AER members.
The AER has been, for many years, raising awareness with the various European Regions for the development of sustainable and responsible tourism and therefore the signature of a convention between AER and BITS constitutes a logical step.
Both parties commit to the defense of social, fair and sustainable tourism and aim to put forward concrete proposals and activities. The AER will encourage its members to participate in the BITS’ Network activities and will promote, within its member regions, the implementation of various projects carried by the Network.
The Network must put forward concrete proposals and activities in matter of exchanges of good practices, exchanges and partnerships between communities, innovative proposals in aid and access to holidays for all and should carry ideas and development projects in the sector.
Both parties will also participate in meetings on social, fair and sustainable tourism, in meetings organized by the partner and they will adopt common declarations, and set up a common work programme.
