  • 06/12/2011 - ISTO European Social Tourism Forum - November 2011 - Malta
    Some 150 delegates from 20 countries have gathered in Malta on November 24th and 25th to participate in the 6th European Social Tourism Forum, having as main theme “Social Tourism in the EU: a new dynamic? Various stakeholders for active partnerships”, organised by the International Social Tourism Organisation (ISTO) in collaboration with the Maltese authorities.

    Last 17 December, the European Parliament voted for the adoption of a preparatory action to develop social tourism in Europe in the framework of the Community budget for 2009.
     
  • 07/11/2008 - Communiqué World Congress of Social Tourism 2008
    The World congress of social tourism that took place in Quebec (Canada) last 6-9 October allowed the numerous delegates to exchange and debate on the challenges and practices of “tourism of development”, the central theme of BITS Congress.

    European Forum of Social Tourism

    The European Forum on Social Tourism, which was held in Riva del Garda (Italy) from 2nd until 5th October 2007, was the opportunity to reassert that social tourism was important as the “protagonist of economic and social development in Europe”.
     
  • 04/12/2006 - Newsrelease Network
    The International Bureau of Social Tourism (BITS) and the Community of the Garlaban-Huveaune-Sainte-Beaume (GHB) launched the Regional and Local Authorities Network on December 1st 2006. Almost 100 participants from several regions representing 16 different countries took part at this event organized at the Committee of the Regions in Brussels.

    The World Congress on Social Tourism organized in Aubagne en Provence (France) from May 10th –12th allowed to the 300 delegates coming from more than 30 countries to work and look at new perspectives for a tourism based on development and solidarity.
     
  • 06/06/2005 - Press Release Decease of Arthur Haulot
    The founder and 1st Secretary General of the BITS, Arthur Haulot died on May 24th. This man of 91 years old, former journalist, great poet and humanist, who was in the Resistance and was pioneer of the “Tourism for All” was one of the most outstanding personalities of our times in international tourism.
     
  • 11/05/2004 - Press release Congress 2004
    The World BITS Congress organized in Blankenberge (Belgium) from April 28th – 30th allowed to the 200 delegates coming from 30 countries to work and look at new perspectives for the development of social tourism. The President of BITS, Norberto Tonini, recalled in his speech at the opening session the commitment of the Organization during the last 40 last years for the construction of an open world and fair exchange and the importance to build a “tourism for development” which must focus on quality.

    Quarante années après sa création, à Bruxelles, par Arthur Haulot, alors Commissaire général au Tourisme belge, le BITS, Bureau International du Tourisme Social, qui regroupe maintenant 140 organisations dans près de 40 pays a commémoré son quarantième anniversaire vendredi le 13 juin dernier.
